Beginning in February 2017 free-to-play shooter Warface will be published by gaming portal My.com for North America and Europe. Developer Crytek decided to focus solely on development and leaves marketing and operations to the Russian games publisher.
My.com is basically the games publishing arm of the larger corporation Mail.ru, who is one of the biggest internet companies in Russia and the CIS. My.com runs gaming portals in Europe and North America and offers also Mail.ru's apps next to free-to-play MMOs and mobile games. The new deal is based on a solid relationship that both Crytek and Mail.ru have developed in the past 4 years, as Warface has been published first in Russia and CIS by Mail.ru.
For existing players not much should change after the transition, as My.com promised to keep all account related items, but plans to be more active with events and eSports activities in the future.
This publishing deal seems to be part of the massive restructuring that is going on at Crytek. The developer slashed 4 of 6 studios in Europe and Asia recently and announced it refocuses on development games and technology, also with a large investment in Turkey.
