Crytek's free-to-play shooter Warface celebrates two years since it was launched in Europe and North America. Especially this year, the FPS has seen many major updates and improvements. Although it's alive and kicking in the Western world, it has done not so well in Asia.
The FPS from German studio Crytek had started with high ambitions. Poised to deliver compelling team-based and fast-paced action, Warface was licensed for publishing in Asia to the biggest players in the MMO industry. Crytek managed to partner up with Tencent, who created a billion dollar business with the f2p FPS CrossFire in China, and they also worked with Korea-based publisher Nexon who was supposed to bring Warface to other East Asian territories.
But Warface never made it to the top ranking of popular shooters in Asia. In fact, the game had been shut down in China and Korea recently, after more than a year since it was launched. The shooter had been also shut down on the Xbox Marketplace, as its Xbox 360 version did also not prove to be successful.
Crytek might celebrate Warface' second anniversary with mixed feelings, maybe this is the reason why the anniversary goodie for all loyal players is rather mediocre.
