F.E.A.R. Online returns with the first Closed Beta test. The free-to-play FPS was in Alpha eight months ago and went into hiatus. Aeria Games announced today that the Beta starts May 26.
Developer Inplay Interactive and Aeria Games have taken player feedback into account and come back with refurbished version. They promise a "truly, unique FPS" witth extensive redesign and adjustments to gameplay of the Alpha version, also with new content, such as maps, scenario and a modified crafting system which allows for making one-of-a-kind weapons.
In F.E.A.R. Online players pit against each other in over ten maps or against evil creatures in co-op modes. Up to four players can team up and fight against hostile Armacham personnel and monsters.
I would not expect the same atmosphere as in the original FEAR games, although the FPS might incorporate elements and scenarios of F.E.A.R. 2. But it sounds like a fun mix of skill-based PvP, and co-op PvE with horror, "terrifying occurences"...
Aeria Games assured that all players of the Alpha version are automatically granted access to the Beta.
Sign up for the beta and check out further info at the official site.
